Mock Wax Museum

We had so much excitement at our famous African American’s mock wax museum today.  We were lucky enough to not only have our parent visitors but also visitors from sixth grade, fifth grade, fourth grade, second grade, first grade, and even kindergarten. For an hour, we gave our speeches for our many visitors.  Our visitors listened to our speeches and read our informational writing pieces about our famous African Americans.
Henry, John, Alex, & Andrew
Lara, Zeineb, & Genesis
Although we were nervous at first, the more times we gave our speeches, the more confidant and creative we became.

Marion Anderson (Lara) gave a few surprise performances and George Washington Carver (Mekkhi) shared some of his new peanut inspired inventions – including a peanut fueled rocket ship!

Malcolm X (Cole) teamed up with President Obama  (Devin) to assist the President in managing his paparazzi problems.

Visitors saw a once in a lifetime event – a game of catch between an up-and-coming star and a baseball legend (Henry & Andrew).

Jackie Robinson (Henry)
While awaiting our next group of guests, we assumed poses inspired by our famous African Americans – about to throw a football (John), looking for poetic inspiration (Zeineb), an operatic stance caught in mid note (Lara), sliding into home plate (Henry), and even a the face of serious contemplation for an orator about to give a speech (Cole).

We embodied the celebrity attitude of Queen Latifah (Autumn), the exhaustion of Harriet Tubman (Chloe), the slam-dunk spirit of Michael Jordan (Alex), and the bravery of black girls facing segregated schools (Armina & Genesis).

Thank you all for sharing this special day with us! We worked very hard to make our mock wax museum a success and, if you ask us, we think it was a hit!
